The new cast for the second TV remake of the comicbook superheroine Darna was announced in a story conference held at the GMA Network Center last July 1. The series will be led by Marian Rivera, who will be playing Pinay heroine Darna and her alter-ego Narda.
Playing opposite Marian as Efren, the love-interest of Narda/Darna is Mark Anthony Fernandez. This was no surprise as the actor revealed that he was tapped to play the role just days before they even finished shooting his last TV series, All About Eve.
But the big announcement came when Iwa Moto, the First Princess of Starstruck 2, was announced to as Darna’s arch-enemy Valentina. This will be a very challenging role for the young sexy star considering that some of the past Valentinas includes Celia Rodriguez, Pilar Pilapil, Cherie Gil, Pilita Corrales and Alessandra de Rossi, all of which are brilliant actresses of their times.
Other stars included in the billing of this much-awaited remake of Darna includes Nadine Samonte, Isabel Oli, Ehra Madrigal, Rita Avila, Jestoni Alarcon, Janice de Belen and Paolo Contis. Child star Buboy Villar will be playing Narda’s little brither Ding.
Celia Rodriguez, who once playede as Darna’s arch-enemy, will also be a part of the teleserye as the head of the orphanage where Narda took shelter.
Alfred Vargas, Angel Aquino, Bearwin Meily, Margaret Wilson, Caridad Sanchez, Gabby Eigenmann and Roxanne Barcelo are also going to be a part of this GMA project. Dominic Zapata and Don Michael Perez, on the other hand, were given the directing tasks.
The show will premiere sometime in August on the Kapuso Network.
