G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Action film “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra” took down the competition at the weekend box officeby earning an estimated $56.2 million in ticket sales. The film, which is based on the popular 1980’s toy soldiers, brought in over $100.2 million in total, making it one of the top August openings of all time.

“Julie & Julia” starring Meryl Streep came in the number 2 spot getting $20.1 million in ticket sales. “G-Force” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” completes the top four bringing in $9.8 million and $8.9 million, respectively.

Adam Sandler’s new dramedy “Funny People” finished out the top five box office list, making $7.8 million in its second weekend in theaters.
