The new film by Quentin Tarantino starring Brad Pitt “Inglourious Basterds” scored big at the box office this weekend by earning $37.6 million, making it the biggest opening earner for the eccentric filmmaker.
The movie, which is set during the Nazi-era following a group of Jewish-American soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis, beat Tarantino’s epic movie “Kill Bill Vol. 2″ that made $25.1 million in its opening weekend.
“Inglourious Basterds” also features stars like Diane Kruger and “The Office” actor BJ Novak.
The alien sci-fi thriller “District 9″ follows in a very far second place pulling in $18.9 million. “G.I Joe” is in third place with $12.5 million earning on its third week. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana and “Julie & Julia” with Meryl Streep complete the top five weekend grosser, with $10 million and $9 million respetively.
